The Flood

Agassizdetail

9,900 years ago
Lake Agassiz changed its outlet from the Great Lakes to the northwest outlet into the Clearwater river. 21000 cubic kilometers of water poured into the Arctic Ocean in a period of approximately 90 days, raising the sea level world wide by 6 cm. Temperatures plummeted throughout the northern hemisphere resulting in an abrupt cold snap lasting 100 years. As waters lowered in Aurora Bay, the flood deposits and land-forms gradually emerged, some as sandy covered bedrock islands
